Nellore police plan to popularise LHMS app to check crimes

Nellore: District police, who secured 5th position across the state in controlling crimes in the district, are now planning to give boost to the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) by conducting wardwise campaigns in the city. The city police also gained the 4th position in the state in crime control measures and the officials are propagating on the LHMS involving people in bettering the rank.
In fact, Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), an app that was introduced by the AP Police for monitoring the locked houses to keep an eye on ever-increasing crimes during the absence of the owners or tenants.
But, due to lack of awareness, there was very few registrations in the app for any support during their absence. According to Superintendent of Police PHD Ramakrishna, there were only 2,500 registrations across the district till now.
As per the strategy designed was the police personnel who receive request from the person arrange a camera with a sim-card having net connection facility in front of the house which would be connected to the command control room for monitoring.
Applicant and the neighbour of the house will also get messages for close monitoring. If there is any suspicious movement of people at the registered house, all the three segments will get alert message for immediate action.
But due to the existing system where police personnel behave impolitely with complainants who visit the police station and hence people are also getting confused with the system whether their properties can be protected or not.
They are also having doubts that the information likely be leaked by the police to the criminals in the absence of registered people. These misunderstandings should be dispelled for getting confidence among the people.
Initially, there was problem for cameras for arranging at the doorsteps whenever they receive registrations for help from the police. But, gradually, people started arranging cameras on their own at their houses and in such a case, the job of the police becomes easy where they just connect to the command room for monitoring.
The application LHMS initially received good response with around 1 lakh downloads across the state, and it was below 2,000 in Nellore limits. As there has been good progress in crime control measures in the city limits with 4th position, police officials are now planning to propagate about the app to the city population during ward wise awareness sessions.
“We have started conducting sessions to explain technicalities of the app and its use during absence. Thereby, they can understand the significance which would ultimately reduce house breaking and theft instances. We appeal to the city population believe police personnel for monitoring their houses during absence for safeguarding valuables,” said the SP.
