Kadapa: The government is committed to improving the living standards of backward classes by spending adequate funds, said Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy here on Monday.

Addressing the gathering after launching modern instruments exhibition (Adhunika Panimutla Pradarsana) and awareness camp organised by BC Welfare Corporation under Adarana scheme here, he said that the government was spending Rs 750 crore in the second phase of Adarana scheme in the State.

He said that former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao was responsible for uplifting the living standards of backward classes by introducing several welfare schemes.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was spending crores of rupees for the economic development of backward classes like his father-in-law, the Minister said.

He said modern instruments would be provided to BC organisations and 10 lakh individuals would derive benefit out of it. He said that Rs 60,000 would be provided in 3 phases for purchasing modern instruments under Adarana scheme.

The government will provide a subsidy of 70 per cent, 20 per cent loan would be provided by NBCFDC and the beneficiary has to bear just 10 per cent. He said that following the plea of Marketing Minister, the number of units would be increased to 20,000 as against original allocation of 10,000 units for Kadapa district.

Marketing Minister C Adi Narayana Reddy said that though the government was facing serious financial hurdles, the Chief Minister had increased the subsidy amount being provided to BCs up to Rs 1 lakh in a bid to improve their living standards.

He said that 10,000 persons would derive benefit under Adarana Scheme in Kadapa district. He said that the scheme would be applicable for 110 associations of different castes.

The Minister urged the beneficiaries to utilise the Adarana scheme in a proper manner. Rajya Sabha member C M Ramesh, District Collector C Hari Kiran, RDP K Devendar Reddy, B C Corporation ED A Srinivasulu, BC welfare officer M Lakshmi Kantham and others were present.
