The state government is seeking another 150 MBBS seats in Government Medical Colleges in the state.  The Medical Education department has sent a proposal to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to this effect requesting it to sanction the additional seats.

Guntur: The state government is seeking another 150 MBBS seats in Government Medical Colleges in the state. The Medical Education department has sent a proposal to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to this effect requesting it to sanction the additional seats.

The department requested enhancement of MBBS seats in Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Ongole from 100 seats to150 seats, in Srikakulam Government Medical College from 100 MBBS seats to 150 seats, and in Kadapa Government Medical College from 50 MBBS seats to 200 seats.

The MCI teams are inspecting the infrastructure, labs, hostel, library and faculty in the government medical colleges. Based on the report, they will recommend sanction of additional seats. Depending on the recommendations, the MCI will sanction the seats from the next academic year.

The state is expecting that the MCI to sanction additional MBBS seats from the next academic year as ithas already taken steps to fill the vacant doctors’ posts in the government medical colleges and is developing oher infrastructure.

Director of Medical Education (A P) Dr N Subba Rao said, “We have sent proposals to the MCI seeking another 150 MBBS seats in the government medical colleges in Ongole, Srikakulam and Kadapa. At present the MCI teams are inspecting the infrastructure in the colleges to sanction additional MBBS seats. We have sufficient infrastructure and facilities to get additional MBBS and PG seats”.
