Srikakulam: Pineapple stalls are being set up in Srikakulam city at different areas to provide good price to its farmers and to sell at low-price than private vendors for customers.

A news story was published in The Hans India on June 14 over exploitation of both farmers and customers by middlemen due to lack of government departments involvement in its marketing. District collector K Dhanunjaya Reddy, ITDA PO L Shiva Sankar and NABARD district development manager (DDM) MD Vasudevan responded over marketing problem for pineapple.

They have arranged pineapple stalls at Rythu Bazaar, GT Road, Government Degree College Road and Arasavalli junction in Srikakulam city. An NGO Manya Deepika is coordinating in transportation of pineapple from Agency area to Srikakulam city.

Each pineapple fruit cost is fixed as Rs 20 which is profitable for farmers and customers as its price at private vendors is more than Rs 25-30 based on its demand. On the occasion, officials requested the public to purchase pineapple at these stalls to get it at cheaper price and to help Agency area farmers.
