  • Directs officials to use vacant RMS and parcel offices as open waiting halls

Tirupati: Guntakal Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vijay Prathap Singh has visited Tirupati railway station on Saturday evening and monitored the passenger rush.

As he found heavy rush particularly on the first platform, he asked RPF personnel to deploy additional forces to handle the passengers in orderly manner.

He said, RPF sleuths have been asked to take care of passengers so that they go in line without any risk. On Saturday itself, he observed, two persons have been rescued from falling while boarding train.

As the RMS and parcel office were recently shifted to the new building, he asked railway authorities to utilise the old facility as open waiting hall by providing good chairs and provide amenities for passengers.

Speaking to The Hans India, he said, as the station redevelopment work may take another three years to complete, there was every need to accommodate the rush on the existing platforms particularly on the first platform.

The works will be carried out on south side first as everything was clear there and will proceed to north side once they get the government land which they asked for developing as pedestrian plaza.

On 4 and 5 platforms also, open waiting halls are to be developed immediately and provide all amenities like extra chairs and other requirements.

Commenting on the recent robbery in Venkatadri express near Gooty station in Anantapur district, he said, they have been working with the Government Railway Police at Vijayawada to prevent such type of incidents in the future.

The modus operandi of the robbery that took place in recent times was similar, cops have been investigating in that angle. Tirupati Station Manager M Subodh Mithra and other officials were with the DRM.
