Vijayawada: The Life Sciences department of Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala organised a national workshop on ‘Fold Scope’ on the college premises here on Tuesday.

Dr Ch Tulasi Mastanamma of Government Women’s College, Guntur and Dr STV Raghavamma of Chalapathi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences were the resource persons of the workshop.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Tulasi Mastanamma said that microscope was costly and heavy, whereas the Fold Scope was very handy and cost effective.

She said that the performance of fold scope was better than the microscope and said that the image of the slide through fold scope can be seen 1400 times bigger than the original image of the slide.

She said that the size of the fold scope will fit in the palm and can be carried to any place and take a fresh slide for testing unlike olden days that one has to carry the slides to the lab.

Slides of Pani Puri and Butter Milk were taken and tested under the fold scope and found the various bacteria and other harmful things present in it.

College director Dr T Vijayalakshmi, principal Dr M Nalini, Life Sciences convener V Bhagya Lakshmi, Zoology department faculty Dr K Lakshmi and others were present.
