Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner J Nivas swung into action and visited the low-lying areas flooded with rain water due to continuous downpour for the last three days.

The commissioner on Monday visited 29th division Ambedkar road, Kabela, Rotary Nagar and other areas in the city limits along with corporator B Sandhya Rani and concerned officers. The officials told the commissioner that the main outflow drain at Rotary Nagar was linked to Budameru at Upparapadu which was narrow and was the reason for the rain water stagnation in the area.

The commissioner inspected the drain at Kabela, Utabavi, Upparavada, flyover and Milk Project area and ordered the staff the clear the silt in the drains using JCB and Airtech machines for the free flow of the stagnated water.

On the request of the residents to provide drinking water, the commissioner ordered the staff to arrange drinking water tanker immediately. The residents told the commissioner that they face this problem when there was heavy rain and requested the commissioner for a permanent solution.

Later, the commissioner visited Jakkampudi inner ring road, Andhra Prabha colony, Nuzvid road, Bhagat Singh Nagar road, Bhanu Nagar, RTC Colony and other areas where the rain water was stagnated. The commissioner ordered the staff to clear the silt and garbage for the free flow of water and use water pumps to drain the water.

Former MLA Vellampalli Srinivas Rao, chief engineer P Aadiseshu, Medical officer Dr K Arjuna Rao, health officer Dr Raju and others were present.
