Vijayawada: Manipal Hospital here, with an aim to educate, motivate and create awareness on cardiovascular diseases, unveiled ‘Guardians of Heart’ campaign to mark ‘World Heart Day’ on Saturday.

To mark the two signature days in September-- World Heart Day and Teachers Day-- the campaign aims at creating 25,000 ‘Heart Smart Teachers’ to create awareness on cardiovascular disease among younger generation.

The corporate campaign will be rolled across various centres of Manipal Hospitals at Vijayawada, Mangalore, Goa, Jaipur and Dwarka (New Delhi), according to hospital unit head Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi.

The campaign was unveiled by Dr Sudhakar in the presence of Dr Murali Krishna, Senior Consultant Cardiologist, and Dr Manoj Kumar, Chief of Clinical Services.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sudhakar said that through this unique initiative, teachers will be educated who can be the best messengers to students.

“India is already the diabetic capital of the world and we are steadily progressing towards becoming the capital of heart diseases as well.

Therefore, the disease needs to be tackled at grassroots level and is imperative to create awareness amongst the younger generation.

Heart smart teachers will spread healthy heart concepts to kids who in turn will educate their parents and the chain reaction of Heart Smart Teachers - Healthy Kids - Healthy Family - Healthy Nation can be achieved,” he added.
