Bapatla: Forum for Better Bapatla secretary PC Sai Babu said that as first education minister of Independent India, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad founded most of the major cultural and literary academies, including the first IIT, UGC Sangeet Natak Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, Sahitya Academy as well as the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and School of Planning and Architecture.

Azad's 130th birth anniversary was celebrated on Sunday under the aegis of Forum For Better Bapatla. Sai Babu garlanded and paid rich tributes to the great leader.

He said the latter emphasized on quality education and considered schools as laboratories which produced future citizens of the country and strongly believed in free primary education and compulsory education to all children up to the age of 14.

Bapatla Tahsildar T Vallaiah, Municipal Commissioner G Sravan Kumar, Mandal Development Officer DV Subba Rao, Deputy Tahsildar G Sricharan and staff participated.
