Nellore: Rajya Sabha Member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy met Arun Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Culture in Government of India, in Delhi on Tuesday and informed about his adopted village Pallepadu where Gandhi Ashram located and the need for its development.

He said that this has been the first Ashram in the southern part of India and Mahatma Gandhi started it on April 7, 1921. He lamented that still there has been no progress in making it as an important tourist destination in the district.

So, he had adopted the village and appealed to the Secretary to include it in the Gandhi Heritage Sites Mission for developing the Ashram. He asked for release of Rs. 3 Cr for Digital Museum, Food Court, and an Amphitheatre
