Tirupati: The Special Chief Secretary of Medical, Health and Family Welfare Poonam Malakondaiah has directed the DM&HOs and Superintendents of Teaching Hospitals of Rayalaseema and Nellore districts to take immediate steps to control seasonal diseases like malaria, swine flu and dengue.

Reviewing with them in Tirupati on Tuesday, she asked them to take up village-level action plan and house-to-house visit and identify hotspots and preventive measures. Anti-larval and anti-mosquito operations have to be taken up.

Creating awareness on seasonal diseases and the importance of observing dry day are very crucial. She also instructed the officials to distribute mosquito nets in high risk areas. Special wards have to be arranged in every hospital to provide better medical care to the needy.

She also stressed upon the need of preventing maternal mortality, enrolling pregnant women in villages by ASHA workers and taking high risk pregnant women to referral centres in time. Hospital services should be strengthened, and training has to be imparted to the newly joined medical officers on various health programmes.

Awareness need to be created on heat wave through pamphlets and ORS packets should be distributed. Director of Health Dr Aruna Kumari, CEO of Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Dr Subba Rao, DME Dr Babji, Chittoor DM&HO Dr B Ramagiddaiah, Ruia Hospital Superintendent Dr B Sidda Naik, Dr Manohar, Dr Aruna Sulochana Devi, Dr Nirmalamma and others took part in the meeting.
