Podili: The traditional two-day rock boulder pulling competition for the bulls, as part of the Maha Shivaratri festivities started at Podili on Monday. The locals organised the competition between the bulls to please the Lord Siva as his vehicle is a bull.

After seeking the blessings of Nirmamaheswara Swamy, former MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy inaugurated the competition and said that the Lord Siva will bestow all with abundant prosperity and happiness.

The organisers called for the small-sized bulls for competition on Monday. The people witnessing the competition between the bulls encouraged them with whistles and claps as they are pulling the heavy boulders from one end to the other.

In the seven pairs of the bulls competed on Monday, the organisers announced that the bulls from Peddaraveedu won the first place and awarded Rs 25000 as the cash prize.

The second prize of Rs 15000 was won by the pair of bulls from Kajipet in Bestavaripet mandal while the third prize of Rs 10000 was given to bulls from Mutla Gangavaram in Kurichedu mandal and the fourth prize of Rs 5000 to the bulls from Marripalem village of Cumbum mandal.
