Production constraints push back Bajaj Pulsar VS400 launch
After clear spy shots of the new Bajaj Pulsar VS400 (previously known as CS400) emerged online last week, it was believed that the bike will be launched this month. But, in an interview with a leading TV channel, Bajaj has revealed that they have had to push back the launch of their new Pulsar VS400.
The reason for delaying the launch of Pulsar 400 is not because the bike is not ready for launch. In fact, Bajaj is all-set to roll out the Pulsar 400, but the issue is of production constraint.
Bajaj Auto is expecting huge sales this festive season for their 150cc range of bikes, especially the new Avenger and the V150. At such a time, if Bajaj launch the Pulsar VS400, it will eat into the production capacity, and result in loss of sales of their more in demand bikes. Many buyers during the festive season do not want to wait for delivery. In order to accomodate their requests, it has been decided Bajaj delay the launch of Pulsar VS400 to post Diwali 2016.
Some say that the VS stands for Vantage Sports while there is also a slight chance that the motorcycle could use a bit of the famed metal from INS Vikrant battleship just like the V15. Anyway, we will know the exact logic behind the naming at the time of launch.
To recap, the VS400 is based on the CS400 near production concept which was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo. The crucial difference is, the production model ditches the USD telescopic front fork in favour of a conventional telescopic unit.
The motorcycle adopts a semi-low slung stance to offer best of cruiser and motorcycle worlds. The riding position is upright and relaxed to appeal to touring enthusiasts. Feature highlights include LED headlamp cluster, fully digital instrument console with an auxiliary display on the fuel tank, meaty tyres, and instantly recognisable twin-LED taillights.
The 373.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor is derived from the KTM 390 family. The motor will benefit from Bajaj’s patented triple spark technology. The power output is estimated to be in the vicinity of 35 PS. Expect price to start from INR 1.5 lakh range.
