This Week: Lexus RX 450h To Launch In India
Since the cars will come via the CBU (Completely Built-up Units) route, the specs will be exactly the same as seen in its Japanese counterparts.
Toyota’s luxury brand, Lexus, is finally making its entry in the Indian market with the RX 450h. The car is slated to be launched this week and its other models - Lexus ES300h and LX – will follow sometime later this year. Since the dealership isn’t ready yet, select customers have already had their cars delivered. Bookings are underway and the outlets are likely to be functional before the official launch of the SUV in the coming days.
Since the cars will come via the CBU (Completely Built-up Units) route, the specs will be exactly the same as seen in its Japanese counterparts. The hybrid machine is equipped with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine linked to an electric motor. The combined power output of this hybrid mechanism yields 312PS and 361Nm of torque. It shares the 8-speed automatic transmission with the Toyota Prius hybrid. Though globally available in 4x2 and AWD setups, the Indian version is likely to come with only the AWD option.
The looks of the Lexus SUV are crisp and follow the latest ‘L-finesse’ design language with a lot of sharp cues and a massive front grille. Interior highlights include a large 12.3-inch screen displaying climate control, audio and driver’s MID information, retractable moon roof and optional rear-seat entertainment system (placed at the back of front seats). Also, the Japanese SUV will be equipped with the Lexus Safety System+, which includes pre-collision system (PCS), lane departure alert (LDA) and automatic high beam (AHB).
With the high excise duties leveed, the Lexus SUV is going to cost a premium. We expect a price tag of close to Rs 80 lakh. It will be competing with the likes of the BMW X5, Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7.
