The Tiago’s fresh design and attractive price tag have managed to garner buyers’ attention. The Tata Tiago registered sales of 4,205 units in the month of June 2016, becoming the first Tata model in over 2 years to exceed monthly sales of 4,000 units.

Monthly sales performance of 4,000 units doesn’t really take the market by storm but considering that Tata’s passenger car division has been suffering from dwindling sales over the last few years, this comes as a ray of hope.

The last time a Tata car managed to sell more than 4,000 units in a single month was in March 2014. That too was a combination of the old Indica and Vista which clocked 4,287 units. Before that, it was the Nano which posted sales of 4,004 units back in 2012.

Given that that the Tiago is sitting on over 20,000 bookings and Tata has now sorted out the demand-supply mismatch of the petrol variants, we expect the Tiago to maintain the momentum for the months to come.

The positive response for the hatchback also sets the tone for the soon-to-be-launched Kite 5 (codename) sedan derivative which features an interesting rear end design, and packs even more features than the Tiago.

The Tiago’s fresh design, new powertrain, upmarket interior and a very tempting price range are the primary selling points. The car competes with the Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 which clocked 5,797 units and 12,678 units respectively in June 2016.
