Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the 2017 Corolla Altis facelift in India at Rs 15.87 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It is the midlife updated version of the 11th-generation model. The Corolla Altis has always been leading the sales charts in the D-segment, but the recently introduced all-new Hyundai Elantra has dented its market share. Furthermore, Skoda will launch the facelift of the Octavia, its arch rival, this year. The Japanese automaker has armed the Corolla with this update so that it remains competitive among its rivals. Revealed last year, the facelifted Corolla Altis has already been launched in Thailand (November 2016) and other Asian markets. We’ll be getting a similar model as well. Mechanically, it remains unaltered, but let us see what the 2017 version is packing over the outgoing sedan in terms of aesthetics and features.

What’s New?

Exterior

  • Adopts Toyota’s latest 'Keen Look' and 'Under Priority' design language, courtesy of which the front facia has become sleeker and sharper as opposed to the previous model
  • Gets Toyota’s Bi-Beam LED projector headlights (both low and high beam) similar to the new Fortuner and the Prius, the outgoing model had LED projector for low beam, and halogen multi-reflector for high beam
  • The LED daytime running lights are now spread out and placed in the lower section of the headlight unit; earlier they were flanked by the grille
  • The new redesigned front bumper features a larger air dam, imparting a wider stance to its front profile

  • The side profile is kept unaltered, save for the new set of alloys. While at the rear, it gets subtle changes, the LED tail lamps get new clear lens top part and graphics, and the chrome applique on top of the licence plate gets sleeker
  • There's a new colour shade on offer – Phantom Brown

Interior and Features

  • Though the dashboard of the 2017 Altis is near identical in terms of layout, it gets more soft-touch materials compared to the outgoing model and a new 'flaxen' colour theme
  • There are subtle changes to Toyota’s Optitron meter in the updated Altis' instrument cluster, compared to the previous version. It has also received new multi-info driver display
  • The automatic climate control gets a new layout and the side AC vents are now spherical in shape – very Mercedes-like
  • Gets an updated 7.0-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth phone integration, navigation, and Toyota’s T-Connect support (telematic services)
  • The previous version that was offered in India lacked severely in terms of safety features as it only had dual-front airbags. Toyota has now introduced seven airbags in the updated Corolla, including a driver knee airbags
  • Like the Camry, the 2017 Corolla gets reverse linked ORVMs. The moment you put the car in reverse, it automatically adjusts (lowers) the ORVMs
  • The rest of the features will be carried forward in the 2017 Altis, such as reclining rear seats, eight-way power adjustable driver seat, petrol-automatic option with paddle shifters, and others
