While we eagerly wait for the launch of the third-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire on May 16, the brochure of the best-selling compact sedan in the country has been leaked, spilling out all the information that we have known so far and then some more. Although the prices haven’t been announced yet, let’s take a look at the features and specifications that have been revealed.

The new Dzire will be offered in four trim level - L, V, Z and Z+ with six colour options which include Oxford Blue, Sherwood Brown, Gallant Red, Magma Gray, Silky Silver and Arctic White. To make sure the new Dzire is one of the safest cars in the segment, it has has a host of safety features that are offered as standard on all variants. The all-new Dzire comes with dual-front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), brake assist, front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters and rear seats with ISOFIX child seat mounts.

When it comes to comfort and convenience features, the base ‘L’ variant doesn't come with an infotainment system, speakers or power windows. It also misses electrically-adjustable outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs) and rear AC vents.

All the above mentioned features are available on the V and Z variants. Moreover, the Z variant has additional features like alloy wheels, front fog lamps, reverse parking sensors, push button stop/start, rear defogger, electrically-foldable ORVM and automatic climate control.

However, what's surprising is apart from the base variant all the variants have height-adjustable driver's seat. Generally, Maruti Suzuki only offers this feature on the top variants of their cars. So this comes as a welcome surprise. As expected, the most popular features of new Dzire - LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and reverse parking camera - are only offered on the top-of-the-line Z+ variants.

Although the upcoming Dzire is based on a completely new platform, it will be powered by the same set of engines as the outgoing models. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 82.9PS of power and 113Nm of torque while the 1.3-litre diesel produces 74.7PS and 190Nm. However, as the new car is lighter than its predecessor, the manufacturer claims that this version has better fuel efficiency. The petrol version has a mileage of 22kmpl, while the diesel has a fuel efficiency figure of 28.4kmpl. While the mileage of petrol version has increased by around 1.1 Kmpl, the diesel version now returns 1.8kmpl more than its predecessor. The new Dzire has a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission)is offered on all variants apart from base. Interestingly both, manual and automatic variants of the new Dzire have same mileage figures.

The upcoming Dzire certainly looks promising. It is likely to give a tough competition to all its rivals, including the Tata Tigor and the Honda Amaze, and promises to set new milestones for Maruti. However, let's save our final verdict until the prices are revealed.
