The scooter market in India is about to get more interesting with the arrival of Britain-based company Scomadi. The scooter manufacturer, known for manufacturing Lambretta retro scooters, has tied up with Pune-based AJ Performance, a customisation, maintenance and sourcing company of luxury and performance cars in India, for distribution of its vehicles.

So what can we expect? For starters, Scomadi is set to introduce its first scooter to the Indian market, the TT125, by May 2018. The scooter will be imported to our shores from Thailand via the CBU route while its distribution will be handled by AJ Performance in the country. Potential customers will also have the chance to customise their scooters according to their preference. Along with various schemes and combinations, customers will also be able to choose between an impressive list of optional accessories ranging from windscreens, seats, luggage racks and more. However, that will take roughly three months to arrive.

The retro-styled scooter comes with a single-pod fully digital instrument cluster, LED headlight with DRLs and taillights housed in a chrome surround. However, you have to compromise on the practicality front with the negligible amount of underseat storage. The company has tried to compensate this with a lockable compartment at the front.

Powering the TT125 is an Aprilia-sourced 125cc engine (not the engine from the SR 125), with a different bore/stroke dimensions and a fuel-injection system. This helps it in producing 11PS of power at 7300rpm, which puts it above the other 125cc scooters in India - TVS NTorq, Aprilia SR 125 and the Honda Grazia. The company also offers an optional remap and exhaust upgrade, which further boosts its performance to 15PS.

The scooter is built on a tubular space frame chassis, which is suspended upon two hydraulic preload-adjustable shock absorbers with coil springs at the front and coil spring with a four-step preload-adjustable shock absorber at the rear. Braking is done by Nissin disc brakes at both ends (220mm/200mm) and a dual-channel ABS unit. Its 12-inch wheels come wrapped in Pirelli Angel Scooter tyres (110/70 - front and 120/70 - rear).

The TT125 is set to receive a hefty price tag of Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom Pune) without accessories and will be available only at the AJ Performance outlet in Pune for the time being. While the premium price tag might make conventional buyers shy away from it, the TT125 certainly looks promising for enthusiasts with deep pockets.
