Shimla: What can be termed as a brave endeavor to organize a film festival in a city holding no connection with mainstream film making, a city based media company announced organizing Shimla Film Festival – 2014 (SFF-14) on April 12 & 13 this year.

An attempt to narrow down a wide divide between filmmakers from other parts of the country and Himachal, the cinema festival would be the first one of its kind in the hill state.

Speaking to news reporters during press conference session, Ravinder Makhaik, a veteran journalist and director of the Film Festival said “the two day long Shimla Film Festival – 2014 is a humble attempt to bridge that gap between filmmakers from the state and other parts of the country, even those from abroad.”

Shimla Film Festival has been marked into two sections, one for Himachal Filmmakers and the other for national / international filmmakers, said Ravinder Makhaik.

The competitive section is only for Himachal Filmmakers, where the entries have been invited in six categories; feature film, short film, documentary, music video, spots and corporate or promotional film.

He also informed that the festival holds a panel of three eminent people; award winning documentary filmmaker Vivek Mohan, journalist Rakesh Lohumi and photographer Sanjay Austa as the jury for the film festival.

Sharing his views on the upcoming film festival, Vivek Mohan said “Shimla Film Festival is an effort from Himachal’s side to pay tribute to the Indian cinema on the threshold of completing 100 magnificent years of entertaining audiences globally. Also, with Shimla city completing 150 years of its existence, there is no better time to organize such an event.”

Governor Himachal Pradesh Urmila Singh will be the Chief Guest for the award ceremony scheduled on April 13 evening.
