Move over all top grade contemporary South heroines. The hip and happening Trisha is all set for a new adulation and earn a reverential salutation even before the release of her next venture.
She is to shortly join a rare league, one in which the only occupant as of now is yesteryear heartthrob Vijayashanti.
In her first female centric film ‘Nayaki’, which is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, Trisha will be given the tag ‘Padayappa’ before her name in the title credits of the film. Apparently, Trisha is the only actress in today’s generation to be given a prefix before her name.
Earlier, Vijayashanti was tagged as ‘lady superstar’ in Telugu film credits. Of course, her intense portrayal in ‘Pratighatana’ (1985) earned envious titles from fans ranging from ‘angry young woman’ to ‘Lady Amitabh Bachchan’.
Prod Nayaki’s director Govardhan on this unique tribute to Trisha and pat comes the reply, “I was calling Trisha Padayappa (‘a big guy’ in Tamil), throughout the shoot. Since she’s both our hero and heroine in the film, I was calling her so. After a point, I decided to tag this before her name in the title credits.
“The posters of ‘Nayaki’ (a female leader) have been designed in such a way that Trisha looks elegant and that’s one of the reasons I gave her the tag. Initially, I sent feelers to fans on social networking sites. They’ve been responding positively and are excited with the tag. That clinched the issue, once and for all,” reasons Govardhan.
But will Trisha be given the same tag in Telugu, the filmmaker says, “Given a choice it ought to be so. However, we are exploring at alternative names that have local dialect so that we can connect to the audience in Telugu.”
Trisha will be seen as a 20-year-old in the horror comedy that is set in a 1980s backdrop. The film, which is in the last leg of production, also features Ganesh Venkatraman, Poonam Kaur and Madhavi Latha in important roles.
Interestingly, sometime back Trisha revealed that she yearned to do a role like the one rendered by Ramya Krishnan in ‘Padayappa’.
