A dream comes true

Khammam: Her dream of visiting NASA space centre in the US came true. Vemula Sravya of the district headquarters town who got an opportunity to visit NASA space centre by standing second in the National Astronomy Olympiad earlier this year, toured the US from June 15 to 25. The 12-year-old girl who dreamt big by getting inspiration from Missile Man of India APJ Abdul Kalam, worked hard to achieve it. She also visited the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and other major attractions in the US.

Sharing her experiences of the US visit with The Hans India, Sravya, a seventh class student, said ``I got an opportunity to watch the space experiments from close quarters at NASA which excited me a lot. I interacted with top American scientists and came to know about the latest advancements in space research. I also briefed the NASA scientists about the achievements of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The US scientists lauded the progress achieved by ISRO which developed several cost-effective space technologies. The US visit will be immensely helpful to me to realise my dream of becoming a space scientist.’’

Her parents Shyam and Kalyani expressed their happiness over the achievement of Sravya, whose role model is astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Shyam who runs a fancy shop in Khammam, said: ``It will be helpful to me if the state government extends support to my daughter to realise her dream of becoming an astrophysicist as meeting her educational expenses is beyond my means. Despite the financial constraints, I am determined to ensure her bright future by extending all necessary support and encouragement to Sravya to fulfil her life ambition.’’
