People prevent sand mining

The villagers obstructed the sand mining that was taking place without a valid permission at the Oora Cheruvu between the villages of Annaram and Chencheli in Birkur mandal of the district on Monday. They entered into heated arguments with the contractors who were supervising the digging near the banks of the pond.

They entered into heated arguments with the contractors who were supervising the digging near the banks of the pond.
They accused the contractors of carrying out the digging indiscriminately. If sand mining takes place near the Chencheli cheruvu, the rain water could get clogged and it would prevent water from flowing into the lake on the side of Annaram village. As a result, the crops on the side of Annaram village would wither away, they added. They lodged a complaint with Birkur Tahsildar.
