Hyderabad: In a gruesome incident, a 28-year-old man was brutally murdered by chopping his private parts in what believed to be an honour killing. The ghastly incident took place in the early hours of Thursday at Sachivalayanagar in Vanasthalipuram on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

According to the police, Lalit Aditya, a software professional, was married to one Sushmita Reddy eight months ago, much against the wishes of her parents.

The police arrested one Yashwanth, who is believed to have agreed to kill Aditya, who married Sushmita on November 9, 2015, despite opposition from her parents. After preliminary investigation, the police suspect that Sushmita’s family was behind this murder.

Police said some half-a-dozen people came by a Tata Sumo with Karnataka registration in the early hours of Thursday and attacked Aditya with iron rods and stabbed him to death and cut of his private parts.

Aditya’s family and Sushmita’s family members have been at loggerheads ever since their marriage. The police suspect that it could be an honour killing by victim’s in-laws, who hired killers to eliminate their son-in-law. “We suspect that Aditya's in-laws hired a gang of killers by offering supari for killing the victim,” the police said.

Earlier, Sushmitha, who was pregnant, was forcibly taken away by her family members to their home, when Aditya had gone to his office. Sushmitha’s pregnancy was terminated by her parents, later. At the time, Aditya approached police and lodged a complaint against his in-laws, the police added.

According to the police, Aditya, who was employed in Gujarat, left his job and started a business in the city. But differences broke out between the couple during last few days.

On Wednesday night, after Sushmitha left for her mother’s house following an argument, assailants entered the victim’s rented house and pulled him out and attacked him with weapons and also threatened the neighbours who tried to rescue the victim.

The police took the woman’s brother Yashwanth into custody. Even before that, Yashwanth on social network claimed that he had killed Aditya. The police are also questioning the parents of both Aditya and Sushmita.
