Hyderabad: A postmaster demanded Rs 1,000 bribe from a beedi worker for releasing her monthly pension sanctioned by the State government.

The hapless beedi worker, who was outraged at the brazenness of the postmaster, approached the CBI and lodged a complaint. The CBI registered an FIR and launched investigations.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Gargula Bharati of Konduru village under Sirikonda Mandal in Nizamabad district was a beedi worker. She gets a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 from the state government.

The government sanctioned Rs 2,000 towards two months pension and the same was transferred to her account held with Konduru Post Office.

The postmaster asked the woman to give the bribe on the subsequent day either at the Gram Panchayat office or at his residence, the FIR said.

An enraged Bharati called up the CBI office at Hyderabad with the help of her husband Ramulu and narrated the developments. She was directed to meet the CBI official at Kamareddy.

Accordingly, the woman reached Kamareddy on January 11 and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, CBI registered a FIR and launched investigations.
