The Nampally court on Tuesday convicted a man for abetting the suicide of his wife, after more than three years, with rigorous imprisonment for five years.

Hyderabad: The Nampally court on Tuesday convicted a man for abetting the suicide of his wife, after more than three years, with rigorous imprisonment for five years.

The convict was identified as Ramani Praveen Kumar (29) resident of Borabanda. The case was registered under Sections 498 (A) and 306 IPC. It was found that the accused harassed his wife and due to the unbearable pain, she set herself ablaze and sustained 82 per cent burn injuries. She later succumbed at Osmania General Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Based on the complaint of her uncle, A Ganga Ram on May 31, 2014, who directly blamed Praveen Kumar for his niece’s suicide, the police began investigation. Ganga Ram alleged that Praveen a labourer used to torture his wife after coming home in inebriated condition.

Even though elders tried to pacify the matter, the accused did not change his attitude and continued demanding money from his in-laws. Due to his unbearable harassment, his wife Shravani poured kerosene and set herself ablaze and died while undergoing treatment.

During the course of investigation, S R Nagar police station collected evidence, arrested the accused on June 4, 2014 and produced him before the Court for judicial remand and lodged him in jail. After completion of the investigation, the charge-sheet was filed and trail conducted. After completion of the trail he was convicted and the court awarded him rigorous imprisonment for five years.
