Hyderabad: The Task Force on Tuesday nabbed six members of an inter-state smuggling gang, including a juvenile and seized 30 kgs of ganja. They used to smuggle ganja from East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh to Mumbai in private buses via Hyderabad.

Acting on a tip-off, the Task Force sleuths arrested Qureshi Mastanand Qureshi Mansoor, both butchers from Proddatur (Kadapa district), B Raju, resident of Mulagapuda (East Godavari district of AP), a juvenile and Md Noor Alam Shaik, resident of Uttar Pradesh. While Sreenu, a farmer,who cultivatedganja from Routhulapudi (EG district) was arrested, another gang member Mujahid and his wife, Reshma, residents of Mumbai remain at large.

According to the police, during interrogation Mastan confessed that his financial condition forced him to resort to earn easy money. After he came into contact with Mumbai residents Mujahid and Reshma, he found transporting ganja lucrative.

They introduced Raju, the supplier from East Godavari. Mastan then involved his close relative Mansoor and started procuring ganja from Raju at Rajahmundry. They started transporting the narcotic substance in private buses to Mumbai via Hyderabad. Raju purchased ganja from Sreenu and supplied it to Mastan at profit of Rs 500 per kg. “In 2016, the accused Raju was arrested by Nidadavole PS in a similar case,” Shashidhar Raju, Additional DCP, Task Force said.

On Tuesday, Raju, along with his associate Rama Satyanarayana, brought 30 kg of ganja to Hyderabad to hand it over to Mastan at Masab Tank. Meanwhile,Mastan asked the Mumbai residents to send someone to receive ganja in Hyderabad, as he could not go to Mumbai this time. They sent a juvenile and Noor Alam to meet Mastan in Hyderabad to receive ganja. While they were in the process of exchangingthe contraband at Masab Tank, the Task Force, with the assistance of Humayunnagarpolice, apprehended and seized the material from them.
