Hyderabad: The Task Force on Monday nabbed 7 persons for attempting to sell antique idol believed to be of Panchaloha. By acting as ‘decoy’ customers, the team caught the gang when they were going to strike a deal with prospective client at Golnaka vegetable market, near Kachiguda Railway Station.

According to police, acting on a tip-off, one of the teams, led by Inspector K Nageswar Rao, laid a trap and nabbed 7 persons after the idol was found in their possession.

They seized the idol of Lord Vishnumurthy and Rs 48,000 cash from the arrested persons. During interrogation, the prime accused Veeradasu Chitti Babu, 25, AC operator and native of Prakasham district disclosed that the idol received from his friend Paramesh, a car driver and resident of Nagole, after paying an amount of Rs 2,80,000.

The accused Paramesh informed the police that the idol is an antique, which is made of Panchaloha, (an alloy of gold, silver, copper, brass and iron).

``The antique of Lord Vishnumurthy idol is weighing about 10 kg and is about 30 cm long. The idol will be presented before the Archaeology department for expert opinion for further investigation,” said Additional DCP, C Shashidhar Raju.
