Hyderabad: After a month of intense monitoring at the Secunderabad Railway Station, personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were successful in nabbing a 7-member gang in the Godavari Express here on Thursday. These habitual offenders are accused of having three-year record at committing thefts in running trains and platforms not just in Secunderabad but also in Karnataka.

The arrested were identified as Ramesh (41), Rajkumar (42), Roshan (42), Sunil (34), Sushil Roop Silu (27), Anoop Singh (35) and Bagavathi Prasad (43) all natives of Haryana. Gold ornaments weighing about 2 kgs (worth over Rs 60 lakh) were recovered from them. Upon interrogation, the accused revealed that they had committed the thefts during midnights mostly in AC coaches, when the victims were fast asleep. They also targeted passengers at alighting points, when the passengers are usually in a hurry to get down, and by unzipping the luggage, they stole valuables.

The RPF team led by Sanjay Samskrityayan, Inspector General-cum-Chief Security Commissioner of Secunderabad Central Railways, along with G M Eshwar Rao, Additional Chief Security Commissioner, B Ramakrishna, Senior Divisional Commissioner, K Rajagopal Reddy, Inspector of Secunderabad, JVVSN Raju, Inspector of Khammam, R Srinivas, Additional Sub-Inspector Secunderabad and the GRP team led by S Chandraiah, Inspector General of Police along with B Pramod Kumar, C Nageswar Reddy, Sub Inspectors of Secunderabad Division and the GRP crime party men took part in the operation.
