What bothers public the most is finding the required blood group during an emergency.To support needy patients, The Rotary Club of Greater Hyderabad (RCGH) is coordinating with blood donors.

Increase in awareness about blood donation among common public is important to bridge the growing supply-demand gap for blood and blood products in the country. What bothers public the most is finding the required blood group during an emergency.To support needy patients, The Rotary Club of Greater Hyderabad (RCGH) is coordinating with blood donors.


Vijaya Bhaskar Madepudi, treasurer of the club, says “We usually are asked of B negative blood group from patients along with Bombay blood group.” So far the club has successfully arranged 498 units of blood from different donors for 129 needy patients from various hospitals around Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.


The major donors are from various software and college institutions. Camps are being conducted frequently in various institutions and software organisations to collect blood and donate it to the needy.Apart from conducting camps and donating blood, the club monitors posts on social media about the requirement of blood and helps the patients.


The group aim is to arrange blood mainly to save Thalassemia effected children in and around the city. So far the club has arranged 1,705 units of blood over the past couple of years. Eradication programmes were also conducted about Thalassemia in the city. The club is planning to conduct free swine flu camps soon to raise awareness among people. Live blood donation camps are also being organised to support the needy patients.
