Presents 11 point development agenda to PM

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday put forth an 11-point agenda of development before Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his help to develop Telangana. KCR, who was on a three-day visit to New Delhi, made it a point to meet the Prime Minister at his residence all alone. No party MP accompanied him when KCR went to PM’s residence at 7 Race Course Road.

He spent about 35 minutes explaining him the key projects undertaken by the Telangana State and the financial help it expected from the Centre. National project status for Kaleswaram and special grant of more than Rs 30,000 crore were top on his agenda.

KCR explained to the PM the redesigning of the Pranahita- Chevella project and Kaleswaram project. Kaleswaram being undertaken with Rs 71,436 crore should be given the status of a national project as promised during bifurcation and sufficient funds released to complete it, he said. Pranahita was being built at a cost of Rs 4,231 crore.

Referring to Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) scheme designed for Hyderabad by the then government in 2013, Rao said a comprehensive plan was submitted to the Centre after earmarking land and some of the companies had even set up their establishments. However, Centre's funding needed to develop it, KCR said.

Taking up the long-pending FRBM issue, KCR said the 14th Finance Commission had agreed to raise the credit limit on GSDP by 0,5 per cent. He said it would go a long way in helping the State's finances. Tribal university to be established in Telangana as announced should become a Central University, he said.

He sought Rs 10,000 crore Central aid for the proposed Rs 40,000 crore Mission Bhagiratha aimed at providing drinking water to every household. Budgetary provision should be made for the proposed AIIMS in Telangana for which the Centre had earmarked 200 acres.

KCR urged the PM to intervene in the allocation of IPS officers to the State. He said at present there were only 112 IPS cadres working for Telangana and the State needed at least 141 IPS officers to provide effective policing. The CM pressed for bifurcation of the High Court at the earliest. On drought relief, he urged the PM to consider releasing Rs 3,064 crore as against the Rs 791 crore allotted.

Seeking a special grant of Rs 39,571 crore for Telangana as the NITI Aayog too had recommended the same, he said the new State had embarked on prestigious projects like Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha to change the face of the State.

The proposal to establish a branch of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) adjacent to the University of Hyderabad campus was also pending and the Centre should look into the issue of clearances at the earliest, he said.

The Chief Minister met Union Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu to take up the issue of Ghatkesar-Raigiri railway line to connect Yadadri with Hyderabad.
