Mahbubnagar: About 16,000 bogus food security cards have been identified and removed from the list of public distribution network of the district. With identification of these bogus cards, it is estimated that about 700 metric tons of rice could be saved every year.

According to district authorities, more than 16,000 bogus food security card holders have been enjoying ration benefits illegally during past few years. Details of the bogus card holders came out during the integration process of Aadhaar numbers with the data of income tax payers and the holder of government health cards for employees.

The authorities have found that majority of bogus card holders having double ration cards and about more than 500 government employees have been enjoying them without any hesitation. “More than 16000 food security cards are found to have been bogus. Majority of them are settlers from other states, who are holding dual cards here and in their native states.

We could also find out about 500 government employees and rich business persons with crores of turnover were also in the list of bogus card holders,” informed the RDO, Hanmanth Reddy. The most number of bogus cards were found in Jadcherla constituency. Out of 69,600 total food security cards in the constituency, 1374 cards were bogus.

Jadcherla mandal headquarters alone has 1231 cards. In the remaining mandals of the constituency- Balanagar, Nawabpet and Midjil- there were 143 bogus cards. “At present the Aadhaar integration is going on at a slower pace. Once the data of Aadhaar, income tax and of other departments are integrated with the main data base of the country, the information of all the bogus cardholders and ineligible candidates will come out.

This will help enable identification of the correct beneficiary in many government schemes which will help in speedy uplift of the downtrodden,” said the officials.
