The local military authorities and their jawans organised a programme to pay tributes to the martyrs of Kargil War and celebrate Vijay Diwas on Tuesday.

Jawans laid laying wreaths and flowers at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad in memory of the war heroes who fought 17 years back and lost their lives servicing and protecting the country.

Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, MLAs Laxman and Kishen Reddy and the President of Telangana Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association Rangaigh Goud were present at the programme in which sewing machines were distributed to widows and dependent members of the deceased.

The day named after the success of Operation Vijay, which was carried on July 26, is celebrated every year across India as the war concluded on the same day in 1999 with India regaining possessions of Kargil district of Kashmir.
