Sports brings cheer to slum kids

To hundreds of boys and girls from government schools in the twin cities, Saturday was a day to remember for a long time.

More than their participation what caught the eye was their enthusiasm to excel in their respective category during the Dr BR Ambedkar
inter-slum junior multi-sport event–2016 that was sponsored and organised by Sports Coaching Foundation (SCF) in their Masab Tank
complex.

Around 1,500 under-privileged children drawn from a dozen government schools gave their best shot at glory, a cheerfulness that drew
the applause of two national award winning personalities.

JD Lakshminarayana, a President’s Police Medal awardee and currently Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra, called upon the
children to take an avid interest in both academics and sports. He singled out K Saibaba, founder-Secretary of SCF, for rendering yeomen
service that was helping the poorer lot to parade their talents.

In his inaugural speech, Padmashri Narra Ravi Kumar, who champions the cause of Dalits and underprivileged classes and works for their
empowerment on his DICCI platform, said it was an occasion that was worth the effort put in by Saibaba.

The Foundation head, a former Ranji Trophy cricketer, reassured to extend his reach and spread into the remotest corners.
