Bhadrachalam: Amidst chanting of Vedic hymns by priests, the float festival of Lord Rama was celebrated on the shores of River Godavari here on Sunday with people from two Telugu States and also those from adjoining States taking part in the event. People gathered on the islands in the river. Annually on Mukkoti Ekadasi Day, the deities are taken down the river on a boat decorated in the form of a swan. Around 4.30 pm, Lord Sitaramachandra Swamy and Lord Lakshmana were brought in a procession to the river bank and after performing the special pujas, the idols were placed on the boat around 6 pm. The boat set sailed in the river amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and bursting of fire crackers.

Mahbubabad MP A Sitaram Naik, Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah, Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao, Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, MLC from Khammam Balasani Laxminarayana, High Court Judge Naveen Rao, DIG Ravi Varma, District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, SP Ambar Kishor Jha and former Union minister Balaram Naik, Mancherial Joint Collector Ram Kishan, temple devasthanam executive officer Ramesh Babu, Revenue divisional officers Sivanarayana Reddy and Ravindranath Reddy and deputy superintendent of police B Ashok Kumar and others took part in the celebrations.
