Why don’t cops sport helmets while riding two-wheelers? Are their skulls crack proof? This is one of the frequently levelled rather grumbled charges against the police.

Hanamkonda: Why don’t cops sport helmets while riding two-wheelers? Are their skulls crack proof? This is one of the frequently levelled rather grumbled charges against the police.

The Warangal Police Commissionerate wants to erase this impression and lead with an example that they were not above the law nor altogether immune from helmet rule.

Thanks to the Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu’s gesture to give away helmets to policemen with money from his pocket.

This is to encourage police to wear the headgear before they reach out the masses preaching the importance of wearing helmets to save their lives.

The helmet, the Commissioner distributed, stickered ‘I Wear Helmet – I Love My Family’ appeared catchy.

The Warangal Commissionerate, which has been working untiringly to minimise the accidental deaths in the region has come up with quite a few initiatives that include ‘Kshemam’, a programme that provided a dais to people in the city to share the grief over loss of their beloved ones in a bid to send a message across the society the significance of driving carefully.

As part of the ongoing 28th Road Safety Week (January 17 to 23) the police and the Commissioner himself out on Warangal streets on Thursday and pleaded the bikers to wear helmets, besides presenting them roses and sweets.

Speaking to The Hans India, Sudheer Babu said: “Responsibility of the safety of the cops working in the Commissionerate area lies with me. If cops wear the helmet, it automatically creates a sense of obeisance of helmet rule among the people.”
