Two promising scientists and PhD scholars from the city, Thishya Kalluri and Shiva Krishna Katkam received the ‘Young Scientist Award’ from the Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences on Tuesday.

Kalluri and Katkam from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) received the honour in recognition of their work in biomedical sciences.

While Kalluri was awarded the ‘Prof. KK Srivastava & Prof. LM Srivastava Young Innovators Award – 2016’ for her work on ‘Developing Pharmacogenetic Algorithm’ for precise prediction of tacrolimus drug dosing in kidney transplanted patients, Krishna Katkam received the ‘Prof.

Nurul Islam Award 2016’ for his work on ‘Influence of HLA-DRB1 Susceptibility Alleles on the Clinical Phenotypes of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients’.

Dr K Manohar, Director, NIMS, felicitated both the awardees.
“Two of our students receiving the prestigious award is a great honour and this recognition fosters well for NIMS in its pursuit for excellence in the field of research,” said an elated Dr Vijay Kumar Kutala.
