Kaddam (Nirmal): With the release of water from the Left and Right canals of Kaddam Narayana Reddy Project, farmers intensified their efforts in transplanting the paddy crop.

Earlier on the January 7, the officials concerned assured the farmers that the water would be released through the 28th distributor on a weekly basis, which irrigates 19,000 acres of land.

However, due to lack of co-ordination between the officials and political leaders, it was postponed. Once again on 9th of January, due to a lack of understanding between Mancheriyal MLA Diwakar Rao and Khanapur MLA Rekha Naik it was postponed, which plunged the farmers into despair.

On January 15, officials released the 3.7 cusecs of water, through left canal. At last, the women became busy in transplanting paddy crop.

Despite the good yield on the previous crop, the hardships of farmers’ were compounded because of lack of minimum support price. Farmers alleged that the middle men were creating problems for them.

Farmers urged the State government to take action against the middle men. The increase in urea prices were pushing the farmers into neck-deep debts, which in turn was leading to suicide of the farmers, they lamented.

Farmers appealed to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to assure minimum supportive price (MNS) for the crops reaped in the Rabi (Yasangi) season.
