Burgampadu: The pump house of Kakatiya Thermal Power Scheme (KTPS), constructed on the banks of River Godavari in Burgampadu mandal of Kothagudem district, is being unused for the last five years.

The then Congress government had attempted this project in order to assure uninterrupted water supply to KTPS at Palvancha.

The project was initiated on February 6, 2010 with the financial assistance of Rs 100 crore from the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited, and completed on March 11, 2011.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • It was constructed to supply water to KTPS from Kinnerasani reservoir
  • Residents of Burgampadu urge the government to use the pipeline for supply of water to the villages under the mandal

As the Kinnerasani reservoir reached the dead storage in 2009, the State government had constructed this project on the banks of Godavari to use water through this pipeline for the needs of KTPS.

Kinnerasani never reached the dead storage thereafter. Not even a litre of water was sent through this pipeline since its construction.

All the water in the Kinnerasani reservoir must be dried to use this pipeline. This happens only in the month of May. The pipeline is of no use for the remaining 11 months.

In this context, some of the residents of the mandal put forth the proposal of using this pipeline for the supply of drinking and irrigation water to the villages in Burgampahad mandal.
