Ramappa temple offers free Wi-Fi to tourists
Ramappa temple, India’s entry for the UNESCO world heritage tag this year, is all set for another distinction by becoming Wi-Fi enabled tourism spot. The facility comes as part of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India’s Digital India programme aimed at providing free Wi-Fi at 100 tourism destinations across the country.
Ramappa (Bhupalpally): Ramappa temple, India’s entry for the UNESCO world heritage tag this year, is all set for another distinction by becoming Wi-Fi enabled tourism spot. The facility comes as part of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India’s Digital India programme aimed at providing free Wi-Fi at 100 tourism destinations across the country.
The high quality data service comes in as a huge opportunity for the net-savvy tourists and devotees visiting Ramappa. It may be noted here that Ramappa attracts anywhere between 25,000 and 30,000 tourists including the domestic and foreign every month.
Albeit the authorities installed the 5-G Wi-Fi facility at the temple a few weeks ago in coordination with the BSNL and the QuadGen Wireless Solutions, which has the experience of providing Wi-Fi service at Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad, the authorities ensured full-fledged service from Tuesday.
To ensure high speed data, the BSNL laid an optical fibre cable (OFC) from Palampet village to the temple. Ministry of Tourism, Government of India Assistant Director CV Shankar Reddy told The Hans India: “At the moment, we are providing a data of 200 MB a day free of cost to each user.
Based on tourists’ response, we will enhance the bandwidth of the service.” It’s learnt that as of now the data speed is around 10 MBPS. The users will have the facility of recharging after they exceed the free data. The authorities erected signboards of the Wi-Fi facility and its log in procedure for the benefit of the tourists.
Ramappa Temple Site Guide Gorantla Vijay Kumar said that the free Wi-Fi facility enables the visitors to learn more about the importance of the temple besides holding them stay for longer periods in the village thereby increasing the local economy.
The initiative, which is coming in the wake of Central government’s nomination to the UNESCO for considering Ramappa as one of the world’s heritage site, is expected to harness the tourism potential of the historical site.
