Bhadrachalam hospital gets ICU
In order to provide quality and timely health care for the poor, the government has sanctioned an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the local area hospital, for which Medical and Health special Secretary Rajeshwar Tiwari set apart Rs 24.44 crore. The ICU is among the 20 approved across the State. The government directed the DMHO to recruit doctors and staff and purchase the basic infrastructure for the hospital.
In 1965, the hospital which started with 25 beds and three doctors, was upgraded to 42 beds the next year. With persistent demands from patients, in 1998, the government increased its capacity to 100 beds. With more patients visiting the hospital not only from the district but also from neighbouring States of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, the hospital was upgraded further.
The then Integrated Tribal Development Officer (ITDA) officer Divya has paid special attention towards the development of the hospital and sanctioned Rs 70 lakh for infrastructure. Further, NABARD sanctioned Rs 18.50 crore for the construction of 100-bed capacity hospital, whose works are in the final stage, said officials.
Talking to The Hans India, hospital superintendent Dr MV Koti Reddy said they had released a notification for recruitment of staff for the management of newly-sanctioned ICU. He said they would complete the recruitment process by May.
