Warangal Urban: Warangal, touted as the next emerging education hub after Hyderabad, is likely to get the prestigious Regional Institute of Education (RIE), a constituent of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

It may be noted here that the NCERT, in a bid to improve the teaching and learning standards across the country, had planned to establish a regional institute in every State. Even though the NCERT is conducting research and development for developing national-level resource material for school education and also teacher training programmes, it wants to meet the needs of quality in teachers’ training through RIEs.

As of now, the NCERT has its constituent RIEs in Bhopal, Ajmer, Mysore, Shillong and Bhubaneshwar. As part of its expansion plans, the NCERT launched the works of its new facility near Venkatachalam in Nellore district (AP), at an estimated cost of Rs 224 crore. The NCERT sought the States to provide at least 50 acres free of cost, preferably connected with rail and air.

In fact, 100-acre land was mandatory for establishing the RIE. However, considering the land constraints, it was relaxed to 50 acres. Against this backdrop, the Warangal Urban district administration has identified land in Kamalapur and Elkathurthy mandal headquarters.

It’s learnt that the authorities may finalise Kamalapur, 25 km north of Hanamkonda, for establishing the institute as the land in Elkathurthy requires the clearance of the Forest department.

Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar, who recently met the NCERT functionaries in Delhi to speed up the process, told The Hans India: “The institute plays a key role in imparting quality teacher education by offering four-year integrated courses in BSc – BEd and BA - BEd for those completed Intermediate, besides offering post graduate courses like MEd and MPhil.”

It will also pave way for research and development with an objective of raising standards of educational training, he said. Warangal RDO K Venkat Reddy said land admeasuring 50 acres has been identified in Kamalapur in Warangal Urban district and a report has been submitted to the district administration. But for the high-voltage transmission line going through it, the land in Kamalapur is said to be ideal, according to sources.
