Kothagudem: The strike by the Singareni workers demanding implementation of hereditary employment reached second day on Friday amidst arrests of union leaders.

The union leaders launched massive campaign at the mines and the corporate office appealing to the workers to make the strike a grand success. The police arrested the campaigning union leaders near PVK 5 Incline in the limits of Kothagudem area, resulting in tense situation.

Singareni Collieries Employees Union general secretary Manda Narasimha Rao, AITUC deputy general secretary Dammalapati Seshaiah, HMS vice-president AV Rama Rao, INTUC district general secretary NSR Murthy, BMS leader Latti Jaganmohan and CPI leader Sabir Pash were among the arrested leaders along with JAC leaders Ramesh Babu, Gubbala Ratnam, K Sammaiah, Vanga Venkat, Guttula Satyanarayana, Ngabhushanam, D Venkateswarlu, Madhava Naik and Praja Front leader Charvaka.

CPM leaders Kasani Ailaiah and Bhukya Ramesh, former minister Vanam Venkateswara Rao, TDP leader Koneru Satyanarayana, CITU leaders J Nagesh, T Anil, ZPTC G Paramjyoti Rao condemned the arrests.

The national union leaders condemning the arrests stated that they could not suppress the strike with the arrests. Meanwhile, the union leaders called for coal belt bandh on Saturday in protest against the illegal arrest of the leaders. They said that leaders of all people’s organisations are supporting the coal belt bandh.
