Adilabad: A tribal Primary Health Centre (PHC) located in a Bheempur mandal of Adilabad district is competing with corporate hospitals in providing good medical facilities to the poor patients.

The Bheempur tribal PHC, in the tribal dominating district, has been conferred with the National Quality Assurance Standard Certificate (NQAS) for providing quality medical services to the needy this year.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recognised the services rendered by the PHC recently and a Chief Planning Officer of the Health Ministry will be visiting Adilabad to handover the certificate soon. The PHC was awarded the first prize using a specific standard protocol administered by an external ‘Assessor Team’, in the year 2016-2017.

The face of PHC changed because of the efforts put in by a young doctor Vijayasarathy Srinivasan, who was posted as the Medical Officer of the tribal PHC in 2013. Dr Vijaysarathy found out that lack of awareness on health, home deliveries and unhygienic conditions was the reason behind the failure of the PHC.

Along with the Mandal health task force and other services he took up an awareness campaign to educate the villagers. The centre was spruced up, maintenance of proper sanitation was ensured, improvement of services and other parameters was given importance.

The Union Health Ministry introduced ‘Kayakalp Award’ for the best managed hospital, which stressed on the said parameters at PHCs.

Speaking to The Hans India Dr Vijayasarthy said that the team had started working on providing good health care to patients and ensuring that cleanliness, sanitation, infection control bio-medical waste management was followed by the hospital. The PHC was awarded ‘Kayakalp award’ for the best hospital management for the year 2016.

A team of external assessors from NQAS assessed the PHC for above 1600 parameter in all six departments including, Labour room, Pharmacy, Laboratory, In Patient and Out Patient, National Health Mission Programmes and Hospital Administration.

After the assessment, the Bheempur PHC has been accredited with 94 per cent score. Dr Vijaysarathy said very shortly the hospital would receive the certification. The value of the certificate is for three years and the PHC will receive Rs 1 lakh for three years.
