Khammam: Everyone must encourage and support to uplift handloom industry to restore its last glory, said District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar.

The Collector made all the officials and employees, who participated in the rally organised on the occasion of National Handlooms Day, to take an oath that they will wear handloom clothes to support the industry here at the premises of Zilla Parishad Office on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that there is need to support handloom industry by giving wide publicity about the usage of handloom clothes by everyone and to hand over the art of handcrafts to upcoming generations.

Every employee must enroll their names in Chenatha Lakshmi scheme to uplift the handloom industry and to help the workers. All the officials and employees must wear handloom clothes on every Monday to support handloom industry, he suggested.

District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar along with Joint-Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy felicitated handloom workers and visited the Handloom Clothes Exhibition.

District Revenue Officer J Shiva Srinivas, Chief Executive Officer Marapaka Nagesh, Chief Planning Officer Z Ramdas, Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Srinivas Rao, DRDA Project Director Muralidhar Rao, ICDS Project Director Vara Lakshmi, District Educational Officer Vijay Lakshmi Bai, Municipal Commissioner B Srinivas and Joint Director of Agriculture Department Vijay Nirmala were present along with others.
