Hanamkonda: The district Congress leaders have demanded the TRS government to order a probe by sitting high court judge into Nerella incident, where the locals were subjected to third degree torture by police.

Speaking to presspersons in Hanamkonda on Friday, former Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has felt that taking action against a police sub-inspector would not suffice. He wanted action against the concerned CI, DSP and SP for their role in Nerella incident.

The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, who backed the police until recently, has changed the stance after the Mines and Geology Minister K Taraka Rama Rao paid a visit to the victims. But taking action only on the SI was just eyewash, the Congress leader noted.

It has become a practice for the ruling TRS to dismiss the Opposition parties’ view whenever they rise any issue. The State government’s action against the SI has proved what the Opposition has been saying so far regarding Nerella incident, where gross violation of human rights has taken place, he added.

Ramana Reddy found fault with the CM for his rather insulting reference to former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar. The CM should learn to speak in a manner that befits his stature and should not degrade his stature.

Referring to the just launched SRSP revival project, the Congress leader stated that the project would not yield the results which the ruling party has been projecting. The TRS government has spent past three years on the redesigning of the projects alone, which delayed the ongoing projects.

The delay in the projects execution would have bad impact on irrigation sector. The CM was of the opinion that he alone has the knowledge about irrigation projects but he should understand that Congress has in the past executed many prestigious projects like SRSP, Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and others, Ramana Reddy noted.

It was because of Congress regime Devedula lift irrigation project works have gained momentum after it was neglected by TDP regime for a long time. Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari, who served as Irrigation Minister in TDP government, has a role for the neglect of the project but now he was hitting at Congress. Ramana Reddy felt that those joined the TRS from Congress would soon return back to the party as they were lacking respect in the ruling party.

The party TPCC general secretary Namindla Srinivas and city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari were present.
