The last rites of former minister and Congress party senior leader Bochu Sammaiah were held at his native town, Parkal with full State honours on Tuesday.

Parkal (Warangal Rural): The last rites of former minister and Congress party senior leader Bochu Sammaiah were held at his native town, Parkal with full State honours on Tuesday.

The State government has ordered for conducting his funeral with State honours following a request from the TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah. A team of policemen fired few rounds in air as a mark of respect to the leader.

District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu and other officials have offered their respects to the veteran dalit leader at his residence along with Narsampet MLA D Madhava Reddy and Parkal MLA Ch Dharma Reddy.

Senior Congress leaders Lakshmaiah, Dr G Vijayarama Rao, G Venkata Ramana Reddy, G Jyothi, E Venkat Reddy, TPCC general secretary N Srinivas, city Congress president K Srinivas Rao, its working president Rajanala Srihari, TPCC secretaries EV Srinivas Rao, B Srinivas Rao and others took part in the funeral procession.

Sammaiah, a law graduate, was born on August 7, 1946. He joined Congress party in 1978 and was associated with the party till his last breath.

He was elected twice as MLA from Parkal and served as a minister in the cabinets of ex-CMs late B Venkataram and K Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy. He for some time served as a ministerial staff in Kakatiya Medical College and quit the job to join politics.

B Sammaiah was known for his selfless service he made to the people and was respected for his loyalty to the party.
