Mahbubnagar (Nagarkurnool): The Excise police of Nagarkurnool district raided a farm in Amrabad mandal where Ganja plantation was carried out illegally and destroyed nearly 5,500 plants besides arresting one person on Friday.

Upon receiving reliable information about the illegal plantation of Ganja, the police teams from Excise department in coordination with the local police from Ambrabad conducted raids on the fields of one Dasharatam and found that he was growing Ganja plants in the guise of other mixed horticulture plantation.

On a tip off, the police launched a planned raid and arrested Dasharatam, while the another person involved in the farming of the weed is still at large.

According to police, they have destroyed about 5,500 Ganja plants by burning them on the spot. “The illegal plantation was going on in Amrabad mandal for some time now. Upon receiving information from reliable sources, we formed two teams to raid the farm and arrested one person and destroyed Ganja plants worth more than Rs 15 lakh.

We will soon arrest the second person who is at large,” informed Excise Circle Inspector Sravan Kumar. As the plantation was very large, the police took the help of youth from B K Laxmapur village to uproot the plants.

“We have had full cooperation from the village youth, where more than 30 youth participated in the uprooting of the Ganja plants,” said Nizamuddin, Sub inspector of Police, Excise department.

Amrabad sub-inspector Jahangir Yadav, Excise Circle Inspector Sravan Kumar, Excise Sub inspector Nizamuddin along with other police constables from local police and Excise department took part in the raids.
