A young Lecturer from Guntur S Ashok Kumar (25), who was declared brain dead, left his vital organs to be donated. A team of specialists at Manipal Hospitals conducted the second Liver Transplantation surgery at their hospital.

Kidneys, Liver and eyes were donated by the family members of Ashok Kumar, who were felicitated for their kind gesture at the hospitals here on Thursday.

The doctors worked for 12 hour at a stretch to transplant the Kidney and Liver to two patients. Renal transplant was also performed on another patient on the same day. This multiple organ transplant exercise has given them a new confidence.

“We are continuously striving for betterment of facilities and are keen on adapting new technologies in providing sophisticated medical treatment,” said Dr Manoj Kumar, Chief of Clinical services.

Chairman of Liver Transplant wing, Dr A Olithselvan, consultant Liver surgeon Dr M Magnus Jayraj, chief liver transplant surgeon Dr S Ravi Chand, Dr Manisegaran along with others played a crucial role in harvesting the organs in other patients.

Manipal hospital Unit head G Karthihaivelan mentioned that the hospitals are successful in performing Liver, Kidney and Bone-Marrow transplantation surgeries
