Defunct fans, ACs aggravate summer woes for in-patients:kurnool Govt general Hospital
In-patients and attendants are facing summer blues with defunct fans and drinking water units, and non-functioning of air-conditioners in wards at Government General Hospital (GGH) here. The GGH is one of the famous government hospitals in Rayalaseema region with 250 doctors providing medical services for an average 3,000 out patients every day. It has 36 specialties with bed strength of 1,150.

The GGH is one of the famous government hospitals in Rayalaseema region with 250 doctors providing medical services for an average 3,000 out patients every day. It has 36 specialties with bed strength of 1,150.

Recently, the GGH was recognised as of one of the best service oriented hospitals in the state. Patients visit the hospital not only from Rayalaseema districts but also from Prakasam, Mahabubnagar and neighbouring Karnataka state. In-patients and attendants are facing the brunt of heat with defunct fans. To escape the sweltering heat, they are taking shelter under the tree shade in day time. During nights, they are sleeping in open space. Patients complaining of mosquito bites and stinking smell emanating due to poor sanitation.
In-patients are forced to purchase water at Rs 10 a litre with drinking water shortage in the hospital. P Chandrasekhar, who admitted his brother in burns ward a week ago, has complained of non-functioning of air conditioners. To keep his burns cool, the fans have to run throughout the day if air-conditioners are not working, he added. Lakshmi Devi, who admitted her three-year-old kid with burns in the hospital, said she is making him to sit under the tree shade as air-conditioners are not working.
Similar problem exists in gynecology, neurosurgery, cardiology, pediatric and Acute Medical Care (AMC) wards.GGH Superintendent Dr J Veeraswamy speaking to The Hans India said the hospital has 800 fans, 150 air-conditioners and 20 air-coolers in 36 wards. Out of which, 30 per cent are under repair. He assured to resolve the problem and provide better services to patients.
