Medical costs now affordable: Minister Kamineni Srinivasa Rao

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said expenditure on medical and health care by the people had decreased significantly for the last two years as the Central and the state governments had made it affordable. To extend the medical services, he explained that construction of new buildings, renovation of old buildings as well as appointment of staff on contract basis had been taken up.
He said that 40 different kinds of medical tests had been made available to the people and 1.30 crore tests worth of Rs 208 crore had been conducted in 1,400 hospitals in the state last year. By providing tabs for 16,000 ANMs under mother and child welfare, he said the Infant Mortality Rate and the Maternal Mortality Rate had come down due to mother and child tracking system.
He said that 14,000 contract workers working in medical and health department were going to be benefited by Cabinet’s decision to hike their salaries by 50 per cent. He expressed happiness at the progress of Primary Health Centre in Pithapuram as it had reached 300 OP (out-patients) per day from 30 in the last three years and for developing into a 30-bed hospital. Srinivas assured that the hospital would be developed as 50-bed hospital.
He asked the agency to demolish dilapidated buildings and develop greenery in the hospital. He further added that the services of private experts would be available for Pithapuram Primary Health Centre.
